The date, and why: The 2026 Qingming Festival observed window runs from Saturday, April 4 through Monday, April 6 — a 3-day break with no makeup work required.
What kind of holiday: Qingming is a statutory holiday (1 day) that usually falls on April 4 or 5 based on the solar calendar. When it lands on a weekend, the following Monday becomes a day off.
Where it counts as statutory: Nationwide. Government offices, banks, and schools close. Many businesses operate with reduced hours.
Long weekend: April 2026 calendar: The holiday naturally includes Sat-Sun April 4-5, plus Monday April 6 as the Qingming observed day. A clean 3-day weekend with no workday swaps.
What closes: Government offices and banks close. Cemeteries and memorial parks see high traffic as families visit ancestors' graves. Parks with spring flowers are popular destinations.
Where the name comes from: Qingming (清明节, "Clear and Bright") is a time to honor ancestors by visiting graves, cleaning tombs, and making offerings. Families also enjoy spring outings (踏青) and fly kites.
