- The date, and why
- Spring Festival 2028 (lunar New Year's Day) falls on Wednesday, January 26. That is the traditional festival date, not a published State Council holiday window. The 2028 调休 schedule has not been announced.
- What kind of holiday
- Spring Festival is China's most important traditional holiday. Under the current national holiday measures, the statutory stretch is Lunar New Year's Eve through the third lunar day. How those days are combined with weekends (调休) is unpublished for 2028 — we show the traditional date only.
- Where it counts as statutory
- Spring Festival is a nationwide statutory festival. After the notice is published, government offices, schools, and banks usually follow the window. Until the 2028 schedule appears, employers have not been told how many consecutive days off to give.
- Long weekend
- Lunar New Year's Day 2028 is Wednesday, January 26. How many consecutive days off — and any makeup workdays — wait for the State Council notice, typically in November 2027.
- What closes
- Until the 2028 notice is published, there is no official closure window to list. In past years banks and most offices close for the observed Spring Festival window and Chunyun travel peaks — treat that as history, not a 2028 schedule.
- Where the name comes from
- Spring Festival marks the lunar new year. 2028 is the Year of the Monkey. Traditions include family reunion dinners, red envelopes, and fireworks. The lunar date can be calculated; the State Council makeup-work window cannot.
